Well another Thanksgiving has come and gone. That brings us to the holiday shopping season. This year I believe the biggest items will be in Home automation. Here are my top 3 technology items to add to your smart home.
Google Home Mini – $29.99 with a free $10 gift card at select retailers
Get hands-free help in any room. Google Home Mini is powered by the Google Assistant, so you can ask it questions and tell it to do things. Just start with “Ok Google” to get answers from Google, tackle your day, enjoy your entertainment, and control your smart home. And when you ask for help, it can tell your voice from others for a more personalized experience. Google Home Mini works on its own or you can have a few around the house, giving you the power of Google anywhere. The Google Home Mini is the perfect foray into creating a smart home. I recently picked up one of these on Black Friday and I am in love with it. For $19.99 after you factor in the free gift card, this device is a steal for the money. It is so nice to ask it questions, play music, and a myriad of other items. I am excited to purchase more devices that work with the Google Home Mini so I can control my entire house with my voice.
Harmony Hub – $87.99
The Harmony Hub is the perfect addition to any home theater system. Imagine a scenario where you can’t find your remote, what are you going to do? Imagine being able to pull out your smart phone and control your entire home theater with it. Harmony makes it so easy to run your system through your phone that I would be that it will be common place in a few year. Plus the Harmony Hub works with Google Home and Alexa, so you can control your home theater system with your voice. How cool is that?!
Sengled Element Smart Lighting 4 pack with Hub – $56.99
I believe that the singled element smart bulbs are at the perfect price to allow you to outfit your entire home with smart bulbs. The individual bulbs are around 10 bucks a piece when bought without the hub. You only need 1 hub for your house. That will control up to 63 bulbs. The bulbs screw into traditions light sockets and once you have your house set up you can control them from anywhere in the world via the app. These bulbs also integrate with Google Home and Alexa, so you can say “its Bedtime” and the smart assistant would turn off the lights in the common areas of the house and turn on your bedroom light. The possibilities are endless.
The future of smart home technology is so bright. I think it will only continue to get better. It is absolutely an exciting time for technology in the home. Really the only limits right now is your imagination. If you can think it, I’m sure a company out there is making a device that can do it!
